Do you have noticeable lines around your lips, deep laugh lines, lines pulling the corners of your mouth down and/or thinning lips?

Aging often shows up on the face as a loss of muscle tone and tissue volume.

Once full and elevated, cheeks and temples lose their youthful appearance, as collagen production slows down and bone loss occurs due to age and hormone imbalance. Eye bags or dark circles form under the eyes, deep “nasolabial” lines form around the sides of the nose to the mouth, corners of the mouth turn downwards, jowls sag, and “marionette” lines form from the corners of the mouth to the chin; all results of facial volume loss.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable materials injected beneath the skin through the use of a needle. They can help smooth over the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and have been approved by the FDA for usage.

They differ on the basis of the materials used:

  • Hyaluronic acid – such fillers last between 6 and 12 months and are most commonly used.
  • Calcium hydroxylapatite – fillers that use this can last for about 18 months.
  • Poly-L-lactic acid – fillers made using this material can last for up to 2 years.
  • Polymethylmethacrylate beads – these produce permanent results and are only meant for use around the mouth. They cannot be absorbed by the body.

What Can Dermal Fillers Do?

Dermal fillers are useful for many reasons:

  • Plumping thin lips
  • Softening wrinkles and facial creases
  • Improving recessed scar appearance
  • Reduce or get rid of the shadow of the lower lids
  • Enhancing shallow contours
  • Reconstructing facial contour deformities

For each patient in the Honolulu area, Dr. Tantisira’s expertise with dermal fillers (which may be combined with Botox or a similar muscle relaxant product) can help minimize signs of aging. Advanced, long lasting dermal fillers, including Restylane, Voluma, Juvederm, Bellafill, and VERSA, are used to fill up areas where volume has been lost and thus perform non-invasive, “liquid facelifts” that yield virtually instant results with no scars and minimal downtime.

As a trained, skilled surgeon, Dr. Tantisira selects the best product for the treatment area. Proper numbing techniques make the injections comfortable with better results. Dr. Tantisira is also an artist, so every patient receives Dr. Tantisira’s individualized artistic plan for his or her injectable treatments.

The specifics of each procedure will depend on the type of filler being used but in general, this is what you can expect.

First, an assessment of your facial features and skin tone will be carried out and the apt points of injection will be mapped. Then, an antibacterial agent will be used to clean the injection sites. Local anesthesia may be given or an anesthetic ointment may be used to numb the region being injected. Injecting each site takes just a few moments and the site is massaged after injection. Results are immediately evaluated and more filler is added if needed. The process can vary between 15 minutes and 1 hour based on how many areas are being treated.

Markings are then cleaned and any resulting swelling or discomfort can be controlled with the help of an ice pack. You’ll be able to see the results immediately following the procedure.

Dr. Tantisira has over 30 years’ experience with delicate surgery and Botox injections. She now features a wide assortment of cosmetic procedures in her Honolulu office. Contact Dr. Tantisira to see how she can help you achieve your desired appearance.
